Dear Friends,

Thank you for your interest in The Gus Lee Fund.

To his friends, classmates and teammates, Gus was a constant source of kindness, love, and support. He was a kind soul whose loss has had a dramatic impact on so many. His influence has already changed many people for the better, especially in learning how to be more compassionate toward others.

Gus was sensitive to other people’s suffering and he often went out of his way to help them. Because so many of us were on the receiving end of his kindness, his positive influence stays with us today. The pain of losing Gus continues, but we strive to make something positive out of this tragedy.

The Gus Lee Fund is a way to honor and extend his legacy.

The objective of the Gus Lee Fund is to help young adults achieve their potential by providing scholarships to attend colleges that would be financially out of reach. Our hope is to honor Gus’ desire to help people by providing a key to what would be a closed door. To provide a path to success that otherwise would not be available.

The fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations are tax deductible. It is an entirely volunteer organization and, in addition to scholarships, will provide mentoring for all aspects of the college experience including the application process, student life, and post-grad career guidance. We will provide a community to support the college education process for those who need it most. We encourage you to volunteer.

With the help of our family and friends we can once again feel the peace and joy that are present every day. We are so lucky to have such good friends and it has made a huge difference in our lives. It is only with the empowerment we’ve gained from your support that we could start this organization.

Ultimately, there will be graduating classes of scholarship recipients and they too can honor Gus’s legacy by paying it forward. Together we will build a  community that will lead this organization far into the future.

Thanks so much for your support,

Chris and Phyllis Lee
